LEXUS HYBRID PERFORMANCE
IN THE LEAD: ON THE ROAD AND IN THE INDUSTRY.
More than a decade ago, Lexus transformed the industry with the introduction of the RX 400h—the world’s first luxury vehicle to pair an already potent gasoline engine with a powerful, self-charging electric motor.
Boasting a variety of advantages over traditional powertrains, from instantaneous acceleration to added fuel efficiency, all while surrounding the driver with exceptional craftsmanship, Lexus has been increasing its lead ever since.
With multiple models to choose from, each offering more to the driver while requiring less from the world, this is more than progress. It’s progress in fast-forward.
The Lexus Hybrid Line
With the best combined MPG estimate1 of all non-plug-in SUVs and advanced technology throughout, the UX 250h is crafted for the modern pioneer.
Instant power off the line and a 31-MPG combined estimate2 are just two ways the NXh breaks boundaries.
The RXh, RXh F SPORT and new RXL Hybrid offer 308 total system horsepower,3 striking craftsmanship and, now, seating for up to six.
The ESh offers more to drivers as well as passengers with an impressive 44-MPG combined estimate.4
When Multistage Hybrid technology meets a 3.5-liter V6, the result is the visceral feel of a high-performance coupe and power off the line that rivals the V8 competition.
As the first Multistage Hybrid prestige luxury sedan,5 and delivering the instinctive feel of a 10-speed automatic transmission, this is the most responsive and fastest LSh yet.
EXPERIENCE THE BENEFITS OF LEXUS HYBRIDS
Starting from a stop
It’s an advantage you’ll feel in an instant. With a firm press of the accelerator, the powerful electric motors combine with the gas engine to deliver immediate torque and seamless acceleration off the line. When starting from a stop under normal conditions, only the electric drive is used for light acceleration, resulting in a gentle, silent takeoff6 and enhanced efficiency.
Exceptional MPG estimates are yet another benefit of Lexus Hybrid Drive. Unlike conventional vehicles, which are optimized primarily for cruising, Lexus hybrids offer impressive fuel efficiency in all driving conditions. Whether in city traffic or on the highway, the system optimizes output from the electric motor and gasoline engine, allocating power to the drive wheels as well as to an electric generator. As a result, you won’t just enjoy a smoother and quieter ride, you’ll enjoy it over many more miles on a single tank of gas.
Welcome to power to the power of two. During initial takeoff from a stop, the high-output battery alone provides power to the electric drive. As speed increases, the potent gas engine is engaged. And, when extra acceleration is desired, power output from both sources is optimized to deliver an even greater boost. Working in tandem with the Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission, the result is powerful acceleration without the jarring shift points experienced in a conventional vehicle.
Instantaneous response and exceptional efficiency are only two of the benefits of the electric power source under the hood. It also charges itself. During braking, the Lexus Hybrid Drive system suspends its delivery of drive power and begins generating electricity. Thanks to this highly effective regenerative braking system, kinetic energy usually lost during braking is instead converted to electricity and sent back to the battery.
At A Stop
Unlike traditional gasoline engines, which must idle and consume fuel even at a standstill, a Lexus Hybrid switches off its gas engine when decelerating and at a stop, saving fuel and minimizing emissions. The electric motor remains ready and available for immediate takeoff.
FUELING THE FUTURE
From a flagship luxury crossover concept that combines unlimited powertrain options with unrestrained luxury to the first-ever Lexus fuel cell concept that pushes the boundaries of imagination, Lexus vision drives alternate-fuel performance to exhilarating new heights.

6CAUTION! When driving a hybrid vehicle, pay special attention to the area around the vehicle. Because there is little vehicle noise in EV mode, pedestrians, people riding bicycles or other people and vehicles in the area may not be aware of the vehicle starting off or approaching them, so take extra care while driving. EV mode works under certain conditions at low speeds. See Owner’s Manual for additional limitations and details.
