Lexus Production - How Far Does it Reach?
Lexus originated as a division of Toyota in 1983 when the brand developed a sedan for the luxury market and introduced coupe, convertible, and SUV models during the following decade. Although the first Lexus vehicles were manufactured in Toyota's Tahara plant, Lexus production techniques involve different production methods and higher quality standards from Toyota models.
Today, Lexus is Japan's largest maker of premium automobiles. Headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, most Lexus sedan and SUV production in the last decade has occurred there and at the Miyata plant in Fukuoka. Just a few models, the Lexus RX, RX Hybrid, and EX are built outside of Japan.
With models available in over 70 countries and territories, you'll find Lexus drivers all across the globe. Japanese and American drivers seem to know quality when they see it, as they are shown to purchase the majority of Lexus models. In the U.S., the brand's best-selling model is the Lexus RX SUV.
Who Is Lexus Made By?
So, who is Lexus made by these days? Since the early 2000s, Lexus manufacturing has been largely independent of Toyota manufacturing with separate design, engineering, and production facilities. But if you have a good eye, you will likely be able to spot some similarities in the designs of certain Lexus and Toyota models, proving that the two brands aren't totally removed from each other.
